Obituary of Beulah Lobdell Robinson

Beulah Lobdell Robinson passed away peacefully at her Chico home on January 3, 2024, at the age of 95. Beulah was born in Chico on December 19, 1928, to Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lobdell, founders and owners of Lobdell Cleaners on Main Street, Chico.

Beulah grew up in Chico and spent her childhood summers at her family’s cabin in Butte Meadows. She attended local Chico schools and graduated from Chico High School in 1946. Beulah then attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in December 1950 with her teaching credential and began her teaching career in Richmond, California. Beulah’s career as an elementary school teacher and principal spanned forty-five years, taking her to a variety of cities, states, and Europe. She taught in Seattle, Washington, Houston, Texas, England (1955-58), the San Francisco Bay Area, and a variety of North State cities including Chico. Beulah was principal at Sierra View Elementary School and Shasta Elementary School and at the end of her career held a variety of administrative positions in Chico Unified School District.

Beulah married Gordon Sidney Taylor, a former resident of England and daughter Allis was born in 1963. Beulah married Charles Robinson in 1968.

Beulah was a world traveler with her adventuresome spirit taking her to many countries. She especially enjoyed exploring Europe and Egypt, learning about different cultures and visiting historical and cultural sites. Beulah also was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club, participating in PEO, Olli classes at CSUC and her Chico High School “club”. She was an Ashland theater member and donated to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Beulah also was on the Chico Museum board and volunteered many hours for museum fundraising events. Beulah loved her cats and was devoted to their care, treating each one of them like the valuable family member that they were.

Beulah was predeceased by her daughter Allis (Rosemary) Taylor Spain, husband Gordon Taylor and husband Charles Robinson. She is survived by her nephew Barry Robinson and wife Pam, nephew George Robinson, wife Lobelia and their son Anthony and her many close friends.

A graveside service will take place this spring with a date and location to be determined. Brusie Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
